A dog friendly Kiama day out or holiday in the charming seaside town is time to treasure. Kiama with a dog is to enjoy world famous Kiama Blowholes, beautiful and unique beaches, landmarks and walks.
Kiama, the traditional country of Wodi Wodi people only 120 kilometres south of Sydney, is a must see pet friendly destination. For years we lived in Wollongong and regularly visited Kiama with our dogs for day trips. There are dog friendly caravan parks if you would like to make your stay longer.

Dog Friendly Kiama Things To Do
Kiama Harbour
Dog friendly Kiama Harbour is stunning. The vast open, green spaces with ocean views invite you to wander about with your dog or sit and take it all in.
Home to the main Kiama Blowhole, Kiama Light and boat moorings, there is much to do here.
Kiama Blowhole
Khanterinte is the Aboriginal name for the Kiama Blowhole. Formed from volcanic lava flows and erosion over 250 million years, in the right conditions, the ‘blowhole‘ will erupt in a large spray of water 25 metres into the air, wetting bystanders.
Best seen from the viewing platform at or near high tide when there is a southeast wind. All our dogs we have taken to the blowhole have been curious when it makes the whoop sound before blowing water, which adds to the fun.
Kiama Light (Lighthouse)
Vibrant white and towering 15 metres high, Kiama Light is the dominant landmark at Kiama Harbour. Highly photographed, it is a fun and fascinating historical feature of Kiama to check out with your dog.
Little Blowhole
Kiama has a second lesser known blowhole known as Little Blowhole (of course). Viewed from a platform or if you and your dog are adventurous, climb down on the rocks and get up close to the blowhole.
Due to its narrow shape, it is more active and more reliable to put on a show than the bigger blowhole.
Bombo Headland Quarry
A landscape of hexagonal basalt rock formations set against the backdrop of the spectacular Pacific Ocean, the Bombo Quarry is an intriguing place to explore with your dog. Walk around, climb rock towers and witness the waves crash into the towering cliffs.
Once mined for blue metal, today, the area is a protected area recognised for its geological features. There is a raw beauty about this place.
Cathedral Rocks
Cathedral Rocks is a volcanic rock formation at the southern end of Jones Beach. At its best at sunrise and sunset when the colours of the sky against the rocks are most vivid. We recommend walking around with your dog, climbing and exploring the rocky outcrops. There is even a sea cave accessible at low tide.
Daisy the Decorated Dairy Cow
Daisy is a full size model of a dairy cow adorned in various artworks and designs by local artists. Created by sculptor Ernesto Murgo in 1991, Daisy is a ‘canvas’ for local artists who regularly repainted her throughout each year. She stands outside the Old Fire Station.
Heritage Walks
Take a pet friendly, self guided walking tour to local points of interest and learn about the local indigenous and European settlement by either:

Seaside Markets
Kiama Seaside Markets are dog friendly, held on the third Sunday of each month from 9 am to 3 pm, here for upcoming dates. And with 100 stalls, there will be something for you and your doggy.
Kiama Coastal Walk
The Kiama Coastal walk from Minnamurra River to Gerrigong takes in stunning coastal views and sites as well as many of the dog friendly Kiama attractions, the Kiama Light, the blowholes, Cathedral Rocks and Bombo Quarry. It also passes along some beaches, some not allowing dogs. For these sections, it will be necessary to walk along the road.
The options are to walk its entirety (20 kilometres) or shorter sections.
Kiama Dog Friendly Beaches
Kiama has three dog friendly beaches – Jones Beach, Bombo and Werri Beach.
Jones Beach (Boyds Beach)
Jones Beach, known as Boyds, is a 900 metre long beach between the Minnamurra Headland and the Cathedral Rocks. The south end of Jones Beach is a dog off leash swimming area.
Bombo Beach
Bombo Beach is an off leash dog beach between Cathedral Rocks and Pheasant Point. Swimming is not encouraged due to strong rips.
Werri Beach
Werri Beach is closer to Gerrigong than Kiama and is lovely. A favourite off leash beach for us and our dogs over the years visiting the region.
Dogs are only allowed in the allocated off leash area marked by signage. It is plenty of room to walk, play and enjoy the beach.
Dog Friendly Things To Do Nearby
Jamberoo Village
The small rural town of Jamberoo is a quaint, picturesque rural village surrounded by lush open countryside, green rolling hills and dairy farms. Inland only 11 kilometres from Kiama, it is a lovely day out, walking the main street and visiting the shops and cafes with your dog.
The Jamberoo Village Markets are dog friendly on a leash. They are on the last Sunday of each month in Reid Park or Kevin Walsh Oval, 8 am – 3 pm.
Gerrigong
Gerrigong is a beachside town south of Kiama. You would be a miss not to walk the main street, maybe eat at one of the dog friendly cafes and maybe pop into the surf shop or a boutique.
Jerrara Dam
Jerrara Dam was once Kiama’s water supply. Check out the dam and the easy 1.5 kilometre dog friendly walking trail. There are also picnic tables and toilets.
